Free and open to all I Tour conducted in German
What happens to concepts such as ‘magic’, or the ‘holy’ when they become artistic performances and curatorial concepts?
What fascinates the curator about Tarot and the artists in the exhibition about critically revising the history of so-called ‘Western’ esotericism?
Which concepts of the environment, politics, and the body, are addressed in such artistic explorations?
During the exhibition tour in HOLE*Y MAGIC, curator Frances Breden and scholar of art and religion Celica Fitz will engage in a conversation about the history of magic, and how it is being reinterpreted and challenged in contemporary art and curating. Through dialogue, they explore the unexpected stories that can be uncovered at the edges of traditions and in the perforated exploration of these forms of knowledge.
Celica Fitz is a curator and interdisciplinary researcher investigating entangled histories of science, aesthetics of knowledge and processes of worlding in relation to contemporary art and curating. Fitz is a founding member of the research groups Enchanted Epistemes. Alongside her interdisciplinary doctoral thesis (art history and museology at University of Neuchâtel & study of religion at University of Marburg) she is currently a Visiting Predoctoral Fellow at Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and works with the Museum of Applied Arts Frankfurt and OnCurating Academy Berlin.
