“My journey through self-knowledge, art, sensitivity, invisible knowledge, queerness, academia, community, immigration, and activism has brought me many relevant insights for tarot reading. My approach focuses on translating the messages of the arcana in ways that promote self-reflection and decision-making based on free will. Many queer people, artists, and immigrants have come to me for readings, some out of curiosity, but mostly because of who I am and the trust they place in me. Many already knew me from other contexts, my artistic work, academic pursuits, or community involvement, and believed I could offer a welcoming and affirming space.

My current tarot journey includes not only offering individual readings and weekly online sessions, but also launching a tarot course, collaborating with artists to create scenes and choreographies, and developing a monthly tarot series on an online platform. Simultaneously, I continue reading and learning from trans and queer writers and artists who are queering the tarot like Fyodor Pavlov, Ashley Molesso & Chess Needham, Charlie Claire Burgess, Lane Smith, and So Lazo, with Rachel Pollack standing out as the Mama Trans of the House of Queer Tarot.”

– Pêdra Costa, Excerpt from *Super Katsarida Zine Issue 2

Pêdra Costa (they, b. 1978, Nova Iguaçu) is a Brazilian-German performer, visual and urban anthropologist, inter- and antidisciplinary artist, and Tarot reader based currently in Vienna. Their work harnesses intimacy as a tool for cultivating collectivity, blending art with activism, spirituality, and academia. Pêdra’s artistic practice centers the body as a primary vehicle of expression. They investigate the complexities of queer epistemologies, particularly within the enduring frameworks of colonial legacies, seeking to decode violence and transform failure into creative potential. Through their mentoring practice, Pêdra developed the concept of Anti-Analysis, a methodology rooted in discussions around artistic and/or academic work, primarily aimed at young and emerging artists. This approach supports artists in navigating themes such as experience, creation, the art market, aesthetics, and critical discourse.
