WORK PLAY DISPLAY
CELINA & MELINA
27 Jan–5 Mar 17
No Opening: Jan 26 2017, 2-6 pm
The curators are present and are relocating their workspace to Galerie im Turm for the duration of the exhibition. TIMO LUITZ has created a modular environment for this purpose, which understands working, living, and exhibition spaces as an integrated whole.
In WORK PLAY DISPLAY, an expansive installation that designs both fictional and real workspaces, the shifting movements and blockades of labor become visible. In their final year as curators of the gallery, Celina & Melina focus the exhibition program on the complex and dynamic roles, relationships, and life models within the art world.
Through guests and interviews, research, sound, film, and the internet, the work within the gallery becomes transparent, documented, and public. Galerie im Turm becomes a space for speaking about art and life, for unspoken enthusiasm, ideas, and frustration.
“We represent work. We have no time. We have no money. We call it life, love, and diligence. We define space and pour into it: frustration, questions, and conversations about illusion and realization. We talk with Eco, Bourdieu and Haake, Koolhaas and Obrist, Moritz Frei, Stefan Panhans, Huyghe and Ruppersberg, Eric Winkler, Lola Göller, Klara Ravat, and also Stéphane Bauer. And maybe someone else, too.
We invite ourselves to be mobile, countering rigidity and iteration. We are omnivores and dynamic. We shed the ‘all-in-black,’ we are gallerinas behind Macs, we are bosses, we are thirsty, hungry, and tired. It’s halftime. The tea tastes good; the light doesn’t need to be so bright. The dust on the files is filling up the Dropbox. We need an update and quickly write an email. We read, we talk, and we are working on it.”
